Wake up to the sounds of nature and charming views of the Nuratau mountains, go hiking with expert guides, and stay overnight in a nomadic tent on comfy beds.


Day 1: ARRIVAL IN UZBEKISTAN, TASHKENT

Arrival in Tashkent, welcome at the airport and transfer to the hotel for check-in. Time for rest.

After breakfast and some time for rest, you will start your journey full of cultural discoveries in Tashkent. Your first impressions in Uzbekistan will be discovering mostly white cars all around and the amazing contrast of people dressed both in pure traditional and modern western styles. In the morning we invite you to visit the most traditional and ancient part of Tashkent where you will visit the old madrasahs, mosques, minarets, and mausoleums of Central Asian Silk Road architecture. During the visit, you can visit the biggest bazaar of Tashkent – Chorsu Bazaar.

Lunch in the Central Asian Plov Center where you can taste different kinds of the national dish of the Uzbeks – plov. The Plov Center of Tashkent prepares this local king dish for over 2 thousand people daily.

In the afternoon you will continue the visits in the modern part of Tashkent – place Mustakillik Maidoni, the beautiful metro of Tashkent, and the park Amir Temur.

Day 2: TASHKENT – URGENCH/KHIVA

Breakfast in the hotel. Early transfer to the Domestic Airport to catch a flight to Urgench (07:50). Arrive at Urgench airport at 09.20 and drive to Khiva (35 km), transfer to the hotel to leave your luggage.

Today you will visit one of the most impressive places in all Central Asia – the Ichan Kala citadel. With some 250+ monuments, this citadel is a museum under the open sky. The visits of the day:

  • The west gate – Ata Darwaza;
  • The blue minaret – Kalta Minor and its madrasa;
  • The Ark citadel with its summer mosque, reception hall, and the Observation tower (optional);
  • The Tosh Khovli Palace with the Harem;
  • The mausoleum of Pahlawan Mahmud with the biggest dome in the citadel;
  • The madrasa Muhammad Rahimkhan;
  • The woodcarving workshop which is the main craft of Khiva;
  • The old slave market in the East Gate;
  • The Juma mosque – a 1000-year-old mosque with its unique architecture and 213 wooden columns.

In the evenings the citadel gets empty and it becomes a true city of 1001 nights.

Day 3: KHIVA TO BUKHARA (450km, 6-7hrs)

After breakfast, you will take a long and enjoyable drive towards Bukhara through the desert – Kyzylkum.

Option: Just after leaving Khiva, you will stop in a small village where you can taste fresh Uzbek bread and see the preparation of Uzbek bread in a traditional clay oven - tandoor.

The highlights of the day: visit a 3000-year-old Guldursun Fortress, encounter some of the rare camels in the desert, enjoying the beautiful panoramic view of the Amu Darya River.

*You can have lunch in a desert teahouse on the road where we will recommend you to enjoy delicious shashlik – kebabs.

You will arrive in Bukhara by the end of the day. Free time.

Day 4: THE SAINT BUKHARA (visits on foot)

Bukhara used to be the biggest Central Asian marketplace for the Silk Road traders and you will really feel it when you see an uncountable number of small bazaars and caravanserais all around the old city. Today you will be walking around Bukhara to visit its most wonderful monuments. The activities of the day:

  • Mausoleum of Samanids (9th century);
  • Bolo Khauz – the mosque with 40 pillars and the citadel Ark;
  • The complex Kalon with the biggest mosque, the biggest madrasa, and the highest minaret in the city;
  • Chor Minor;
  • The monuments of the Lyabi Khauz complex.

Tip: you should consider taking some coffee (maybe a beer!) at a terrace restaurant in front of the Kalon complex. That’s where you will see one of the highlights of your tour in Bukhara – the panoramic view of the complex.

Day 5: BUKHARA AND THE PALACES

Breakfast. Half-day tour to visit the monuments outside the city of Bukhara: the summer residence of the emirs of Bukhara – Sitorai Mokhi Khossa, Naqshbandi mausoleum – the center of Sufism of Central Asia.

In the afternoon you will have free time. During your free time you can visit the Persian Miniatures workshop of master miniature painter Davlat Toshev; the workshop Oriental Puppets; and the photo gallery of a talented photographer Shavkat Boltaev where you will see amazing images from different parts of Uzbekistan which are off-tourist-routes.

If you would like to make a traditional “tea time”, we recommend you to go to the Silk Road Teahouse in the center of the old city where you can taste different sorts of tea (herbal tea, tea with saffron, ginger tea, etc.). Besides, you may go to one of the old Hammams near the trade dome Toqi Telpakfurishon for having a traditional, energetic massage and a hammam session.

Night in Bukhara


Day 6: BUKHARA TO YURT CAMP (260km)

After breakfast, you will take a ride to go to the desert yurt camp situated near Nurata city. There are several yurt camping options available in the area of Nurata. Staying in a traditional nomadic yurt – Ger is will ensure that you travel Uzbekistan through immersion, nature, real culture, and local food.

The highlights of the drive to the yurt camp: visiting the water reservoir of the Silk Road caravans – Sardoba, 2000-year-old rock carvings near Nurata, the ruins of a citadel of Alexander the Great, and Chashma complex in Nurata. Lunch in a traditional house to enjoy local homemade food.

By the end of the day, you will arrive at the desert yurt camp. Today you will discover the unique and amazing culture of nomadic nations: ride camels, experience nomadic lifestyle, nomadic meals, nomadic music around a campfire, and overnight in yurts.


Day 7: YURT CAMP – HOMESTAY IN A VILLAGE (260km)

After a rich breakfast in the yurt camp, you can go to see the biggest lake in the country which is situated in the heart of the desert (5-7km from your camp). Enjoy some free time swimming, observing the birdlife of the lake Aydarkul. There is a possibility to have a lunch picnic with a beautiful view of the lake.

Drive to the Nurata mountains, for a perfect homestay in the village Sentab/Ukhum. Arrival in Sentab in the afternoon. Accommodation in a local guesthouse.

This homestay in the Nurata mountains will let you gain a deeper understanding of the Uzbek culture and way of life in a safe and welcoming setting. After an overnight in a nomadic tent, and visits to the historic cities, you will love this distraction in the middle of the Nuratau mountains.

On arrival in the guesthouse, you will be offered tea with fruits or dry fruits. You will have some free time for having a rest in a peaceful garden of the guesthouse and to make a short walk in the village around the guesthouse. By the end of the day, if you wish, you can participate in the preparation of a traditional Uzbek dinner.

Day 8: HIKING IN THE VILLAGE – SAMARKAND (270km)

Have a rich, traditional breakfast in the guesthouse and start a beautiful hike along the picturesque roads of the mountainous village towards the “abandoned castle” of the village. On the road, you will see beautiful landscapes of the Nurata mountains, the lifestyle of the villagers, elder people on their donkeys, and traditional clothes which altogether seems that life has stopped there at the beginning of the 20th century. You will return to the guesthouse for having lunch.

Note: Nuratau mountains offer some of the most popular hiking attractions of Uzbekistan. If you want a longer hiking trip, and more homestay tours, there are several stunning hiking adventures available in the area.

In the afternoon you will depart towards Samarkand.

Arrival in Samarkand by the end of the day check in to the hotel. Free time.

Day 9: SAMARKAND - The highlight of the trip

Have a good breakfast and be ready to start the discovery of the heart of the Great Silk Road. Today you are going to see some of the most fabulous monuments of Islamic architecture:

  • The mausoleum of Tamerlane, richly decorated with gold, jade, marble, mosaics, and ceramics;
  • The majestic Registan place and its three magnificent madrasahs;
  • The Taj Mahal of Samarkand – Bibi Khanum mosque and the bazaar Siab;
  • The most sacred place of Samarkand – the necropolis Shakhi Zinda and its 20+ mausoleums.

After the visits, you will be transferred to your hotel for having some rest.

In the evening, we will invite you to a Samarkand by Night tour to see a few monuments of the city with absolutely different colors.

Day 10: SAMARKAND TO TASHKENT

After breakfast, you will have time to visit the final attraction in Samarkand:

  • Samarkand Silk Paper workshop in a beautiful village;
  • The museum and the Observatory of Ulugh Beg;
  • The Afrosiyob museum.

Transfer to Tashkent after the visits. Enjoy your last long ride through the beautiful Zerafshan mountains, and the arid lands of Mirzachol which is called the Steppes of Hunger.

Optional:  You can make this transfer by train. The Afrosiyob High-Speed train Samarkand – Tashkent leaves at 17:00 and arrives in Tashkent at 19:20.

Arrival in Tashkent and transfer to your hotel.

Day 11: THANK YOU AND GOODBYE

Departure from Tashkent

Early breakfast. Transfer to the International Airport of Tashkent.
