Day 1. WELCOME TO UZBEKISTAN

Depart … for the overnight flight to Tashkent.

Our local guide/driver will meet you in the main waiting area of Tashkent Airport with a board, written your name/s. Transfer to the hotel for rest.


Day 2. SIGHTSEEING IN TASHKENT

After breakfast and some time for rest, you will start your journey full of cultural discoveries in Tashkent. In the morning we invite you to visit the most traditional and historical places in Tashkent: Khastimam, where you will visit the old madrasahs, mosques, minarets, and mausoleums of Central Asian Silk Road architecture. During the visit, you can visit the biggest bazaar of Tashkent – Chorsu Bazaar. You can also visit:

  • A couple of beautiful stations of the metro of Tashkent; Pakhtakor and Alisher Navoi are 2 stations of metro decorated in cultural/traditional style;
  • The Museum of the History of Uzbekistan.

Day3. TASHKENT – KHOJEILI – AYAZ KALA (the ancient citadels)

A trip to the Oldest historical sites of Uzbekistan

Breakfast at your hotel and transfer to the domestic airport of Tashkent to take a flight to Nukus (07:50). Arrival in Nukus(9:15). On Arrival in Nukus, you will be transferred to one of the most ancient cities of Central Asia – Khojeili (25km).

In Khojeili, you will visit one of the most spectacular and rare places of Uzbekistan – the Zoroastrian Heritage site “Mizdakhan Kala”. Mizdakhan is an immense complex with a great variety of mausoleums most of which are the oldest monuments of the Zoroastrian culture in Uzbekistan. This historical place is full of myths, legends and it is also an ideal place for photography lovers. You can also visit the ruins of the antique 3000-year-old citadel Gyaur Kala.

After the visits in Khojeili, drive to Ayazkala (95km). On the way to Ayaz Kala, you will enter the territory of the Badai Tugai Nature Reserve to visit a wonderful antique citadel that 99% of travelers don’t know about. In the territory of the nature reserve, you will cross a small part of a unique desert forest, encounter some of the 1500+ desert gazelles and arrive at Jampik Kala. Lunch picnic with a beautiful view of Jampik Kala.

Continue the drive towards Ayaz Kala Yurt Camp located in front of the ruins of the Ayaz Kala fortress. Arrival in Ayaz Kala by the end of the day.

Dinner and overnight in Ayazkala Yurt Camp.


Day4. ANCIENT CITADELS – KHIVA

After a typical breakfast in the yurt, you will visit the ancient Ayaz Kala fortress and then take the drive to Khiva (85km). Arrive in Khiva by midday. Transfer to the hotel. Free time.

In the afternoon, you will start visiting the historical monuments of Ichan Kala citadel, in Khiva. With some 250+ monuments, this citadel is a real museum under the open sky. Your first visits in Khiva include the West Gate, the blue minaret – Kalta Minor, and the ancient palace of the rulers – the Ark citadel.

Day5. KHIVA, the old city

Breakfast at the hotel. Today you will visit more wonderful world heritage historic sites in Khiva:

  • The Tosh Khovli Palace with the Harem;
  • The mausoleum of Pahlawan Mahmud with the biggest dome in the citadel;
  • The madrasa Muhammad Rahimkhan;
  • The old slave market in the East Gate;
  • The Juma mosque – a 1000-year-old mosque with its unique architecture and 213 wooden columns.

Tip: Evening walk in the streets of Khiva is one of the highlights of Historical Trips in Uzbekistan.

Day6. KHIVA TO BUKHARA (450km, 6-7hrs)

After breakfast, you will take a long and enjoyable drive towards Bukhara through the desert – Kyzylkum. The highlights of the day: encountering some of the rare camels in the desert, enjoying the beautiful panoramic view of the Amu Darya River.

You will arrive in Bukhara by the end of the day. Free time.

Day7. THE ANCIENT BUKHARA (visits on foot)

Bukhara used to be the biggest Central Asian marketplace for the Silk Road traders and you will really feel it when you see an uncountable number of small bazaars and caravanserais all around the old city. Today you will be walking around historical places in Bukhara and visit its most wonderful monuments. The activities of the day:

  • The oldest mausoleum in the city – the mausoleum of Samanids (9th century);
  • The mosque Magoki Attori, oldest in the city;
  • Bolo Khauz – the mosque with 40 pillars and the citadel Ark;
  • The complex Kalon with the biggest mosque, the biggest madrasa, and the highest minaret in the city;
  • Chor Minor;
  • The monuments of the Lyabi Khauz complex.

Day8. BUKHARA AND THE PALACES

Breakfast. Half-day tour to visit the monuments outside the city of Bukhara: the summer residence of the emirs of Bukhara – Sitorai Mokhi Khossa, Naqshbandi mausoleum – historic center of Sufism of Uzbekistan, and the ancient complex of historical monuments – Chor Bakr.

In the afternoon you will have free time. During your free time you can visit the Persian Miniatures workshop of master miniature painter Davlat Toshev; the workshop Oriental Puppets; and the photo gallery of a talented photographer Shavkat Boltaev where you will see amazing images from different parts of Uzbekistan which are off-tourist-routes.

Night in Bukhara.


Day9. TRANSFER TO SAMARKAND VIA SHAHRISABZ (320km)

After breakfast, drive to Samarkand via Shakhrisabz (275 km, 4 hrs). You will arrive in Shahrisabz by midday and you will visit the main historical attractions of the city:

  • Visit the ruins of the majestic White Palace of Amir Temur (Tamerlane) – Ak Saray;
  • The crypt of Temur and the tombs of his sons;
  • The 600-year-old mosque Kok Gumbaz – Blue Dome and the mausoleum Gumbazi Sayidon.

In the afternoon you will continue the drive to Samarkand (90 km, 2 h.*). Arrive in Samarkand, check in to the hotel for a rest.

Day10. SAMARKAND - The highlight of the trip

Have some good breakfast and depart for exploring the most famous historical places of Samarkand:

  • The mausoleum Gur-Emir, richly decorated with gold, jade, mosaics, ceramics, and marble;
  • The majestic Registan place and its magnificent madrasahs;
  • The Taj Mahal of Samarkand – Bibi Khanum mosque and old bazaar Siab;
  • The fantastic necropolis Shakhi Zinda with its over 20 richly decorated monuments.

In the evening we can invite you to a Samarkand by Night tour to see a few monuments of the city.

Day11. SAMARKAND

After breakfast, you will have time to visit the final attraction in Samarkand: Samarkand Silk Paper workshop, Observatory of Ulugh Beg, and the Afrosiyob museum.

16:00 transfer to the train station to take the Afrosiyob High-Speed train Samarkand – Tashkent (17:00). Arrive in Tashkent (19:10) and transfer to your hotel.

Day12. DEPARTURE FROM TASHKENT

Early breakfast. Transfer to the International Airport of Tashkent.
